Dean Crowell is an international lawyer, businessman and investor with over 30 years experience in all aspects of domestic and international investments, acquisitions, and mergers.
Dean graduated with honors from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law, in 1974 and then served as a Clerk to Justice Donald E. Kelley on the Colorado Supreme Court prior to entering the practice of law.
In private practice, Dean most recently was as a partner in Hogan Lovells, an international law firm headquartered in Washington D.C. and London, with over 2500 lawyers in 40 offices worldwide. Mr. Crowell was Managing Partner of the Paris office of Hogan from 1993 through 1997 and during this time founded the firm’s Moscow office.
In private practice, Mr. Crowell served as legal counsel for many of the world’s leading natural resources and telecommunications companies. Mr. Crowell’s natural resources practice included the representation of Amax, Atlas Minerals Corporation, Chevron, Cyprus Minerals, Goldfields, Union Minere, and Western Mining Company.
His work in natural resources included the development, regulatory compliance, and disposition of the
Goldstrike Mine on the Carlin Trend in Eureka County, Nevada, the largest gold mine in North America. Dean’s telecommunications practice included the representation of U S West, MediaOne, British Telecom, STET, France Telecom, GN Great Nordic, Time Warner, and ICO. From 1990 to 1992, Mr. Crowell was chairman of the legal committee of the TSL Venture, a consortium comprised of 10 of the world’s largest telecommunications companies, in a project to build the world’s largest terrestrial and submarine
fiber optic network.
While in private practice Mr. Crowell also advised various governments, including the Russian Ministry of Communications, the Kingdom of Bhutan, the Kazakhstan Ministry of Energy and Environment and the State of Alaska Department of Natural Resources on the enactment and implementation of various privatization, energy, and telecommunications laws.
In addition to the practice of law, Dean has pursued a variety of business interests and served in an advisory role and on boards of various companies and not-for-profit organizations. From 2000 to 2003, Dean served as the President and Chief Executive Officer of FTCH, Ltd., an international telecommunications holding company providing various telecommunication services and infra-structure products in Asia. In 2004, Dean founded and served as the Managing Director of China Pathway Logistics B.V., a Dutch company providing location-based services in The Peoples’ Republic of
China through a joint venture with the Chinese Ministry of Communications.
More recently, Dean has developed a number of energy projects, including oil, gas, hydroelectric electric and wind farms, both in the US and abroad. Dean served as the principal partner in Vision Energy Group
which acquired the Hogback Project in San Juan County, New Mexico, developed the property as potentially the largest producer of helium in the US.
Beginning in January 2016, Mr. Crowell has served as the Chief Operating Officer of GH America Investments Group, LLC, and several of its affiliates.
Dean has served on the boards of the not-for-profit International Community Development Foundation and Second Byte Foundation. From 1992 through 1996, Dean served as the Co-Chairman of the American Bar Association, Committee on International Mineral Development. Dean was a member of the Bar Associations of Colorado and the District of Columbia
